| Tue Oct 28 | The Tiger Lillies & Kronos Quartet The Gorey End - U.S. Premiere Just in time for Halloween, Britain's macabre and ghoulishly cabaret cult favorites The Tiger Lillies and the Kronos Quartet premiere a suite of 13 new songs inspired by the unpublished writings of the legendary American illustrator and writer Edward Gorey. Best-known for his offbeat, whimsically eclectic pen and ink illustrations and texts, Gorey produced more than a hundred works, including innumerable illustrations in publications such as The New Yorker and The New York Times, and in books by a wide array of authors from Charles Dickens to Edward Lear, Samuel Beckett, John Updike, Virginia Woolf and H.G. Wells. His animated credits for the PBS Mystery series have introduced him to millions of television viewers. The Tiger Lillies return to UCLA Live for the first time since the scandalouslyvsuccessful Shockheaded Peter (a collaboration with the Improbable Theatre Company), joining forces with the formidable Kronos Quartet to perform this set of songs written by Tiger Lillies' founder Martyn Jacques. |
