Gig is a dance and music installation and interplay by dancers Oguri and Jamie Burris
and guitarists Nels Cline and G.E. Stinson. Electric Guitar meets Butoh. Gig performances
bring hip club energy to theater, reestablishing the roots of Butoh, a dance genre which
first came to light, antic and fantastic, concomitant with rock and roll in the late 1950's.
In 1999 Oguri began Earthbeat performances as a forum for innovation for visual artists
musicians, writers and dancers. Gig/Earthbeat 2002 is collaborative improvisation, a
meeting of skilled, well-trained musicians and dancers interacting reciprocally. In Gig,
musician strolls onto stage as dancer sets the scene. Cline strives to create a "heightened
sense of existence, ecstasy and existential anxiety, merging the sublime and transcendent
with the ordinary." Stinson's interest in creating new musical forms leads him to the
intersection of popular culture and the experimental. Oguri dissolves boundaries between
audience, stage, set and dance, creating new contexts for his work and new movement parameters.

This day-long workshop is designed to help composers and performers to understand
the fundamentals of working with audio electronics for live performance, covering
sound amplification and mixing, effects processing and live sampling, and control
systems for live performance interaction.The workshop will include both lecture/
demonstration and hands-on laboratory sessions.
